Mississippi Grind’s Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are reportedly the Captain Marvel directors
Marvel Studios has found their Captain Marvel directors! The directing pair of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have signed on to direct the film. Best known for helming 2015’s Mississippi Grind, starring Ryan Reynolds and Ben Mendelsohn, Boden and Fleck are set to bring Academy Award winner Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers into the MCU.
Kevin Feige will produce the film, written by Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman. Marvel Studios’ Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Jonathan Schwartz serve as Executive Producers alongside Stan Lee.

Boden and Fleck have also directed and written It’s Kind of a Funny Story (starring Emma Roberts and Zach Galifianakis), Sugar, and worked together on the critically acclaimed Half Nelson, starring Ryan Gosling.
Carol Danvers has a very nuanced, powerful story, so Marvel took time selecting the final directing duo. But ultimately Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s diverse body of work and ability and focus on the character made the choice a winning one. Each of their films exhibits nuanced, fascinating performances and a deeply-felt sense of character, all which will fuel the pair's passion around telling Carol Danvers’ Story.
In the regular Marvel Comics continuity, Carol Danvers made her first appearance in 1968’s “Marvel Super-Heroes” #13. A Security Chief in the US air force, Danvers would later be transformed into the superhero Ms. Marvel following an explosion involving Kree technology. More recently, Danvers took on the identity of Captain Marvel after being “promoted” to the moniker of the former Kree superhero.

Setting the pair of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck as Captain Marvel directors makes a lot of sense given the studio’s success working with Joe and Anthony Russo. The brothers helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War and are currently hard at work on Avengers: Infinity War.
Captain Marvel is set to hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
